Trailhead GO
Trailhead GO is the official Salesforce mobile app for completing Trailhead modules, projects, and superbadges on iOS and Android.
Definition
Trailhead GO is the official Salesforce mobile app for completing Trailhead modules, projects, and superbadges on iOS and Android. The app mirrors the web experience at trailhead.salesforce.com but optimizes for mobile-friendly learning: bite-sized module units, offline reading, push notifications for new badges and trail recommendations, and integrated quiz-taking that works with one-handed thumb navigation.
Trailhead GO is free, account-linked to a Trailblazer profile, and tracks progress across web and mobile so a learner can start a module on a laptop at lunch and finish the quiz on the train home. The app is primarily a learning consumption tool; hands-on challenges that require a Developer Edition sandbox still need a desktop browser. For modules without code requirements (admin trails, certification prep, soft-skills content) the entire module can be completed end-to-end on a phone.
How Trailhead GO extends Trailhead learning into mobile-first contexts
Module units, quizzes, and the mobile reading experience
Each Trailhead module is broken into units, each unit ending in either a quiz (multiple choice) or a hands-on challenge (real org task). The mobile app renders units as scrollable mobile-optimized pages with collapsible sections, embedded videos, and inline images. Quizzes work natively in the app with one-tap answer selection. The reading experience is genuinely good; the team has invested in making complex topics digestible on a 6-inch screen, not just a shrunk-down web view.
Offline reading and download behaviour
Trailhead GO supports offline reading for downloaded modules. Tap the download icon on any module and the unit text, images, and embedded videos are cached locally. Quizzes also work offline; answers are queued and submitted when the device reconnects. The download cap is generous (a few gigabytes by default), but large modules with multiple embedded videos can fill it. Manage downloads under Settings, Storage to free space when needed.
Hands-on challenges and the device limitation
Hands-on challenges that require a Developer Edition or Trailhead Playground sandbox cannot be completed in the app. The challenge UI shows a tappable shortcut to launch the connected playground in a mobile browser, but the actual administrative work (creating fields, building flows, deploying Apex) requires a desktop or laptop. The app handles this gracefully; the unit pauses at the hands-on step and resumes once the user marks it complete on the desktop.
Trailblazer profile sync and badge progress
The app authenticates via the user's Trailblazer profile, the same account used at trailhead.salesforce.com. Badges earned on mobile sync to the web profile instantly. Streak counts, points totals, and ranks (Hiker, Explorer, Adventurer, Mountaineer, Expeditioner, Ranger, Double Star Ranger) all reflect the unified state. This means the app is a real continuation of the Trailhead experience, not a separate learning silo.
Trailmix support and the recommendation engine
Trailmixes (curated module collections) are first-class in the app. Pick a Trailmix from your home feed or search, and the app lays out the units in order. The recommendation engine surfaces Trailmixes based on the user's certification track, recent activity, and Salesforce role on the profile. Completion of a Trailmix unlocks a badge and counts toward Ranger level. For cert prep this is the main organizing structure; the Admin cert Trailmix has 30+ modules and three superbadges.
Push notifications and learning streaks
Trailhead GO sends push notifications for new badge availability, daily learning streak reminders, and major Trailhead release announcements. Streak notifications fire daily if you have an active streak; missing a day breaks it. The gamification is light-touch but effective for users who respond to daily learning prompts. Notifications can be muted per-category in Settings, but the daily streak reminder is the one most users keep on intentionally.
Common limitations and when to switch to the web
The app does not support content authoring (writing modules, building Quests), AppExchange browsing, or some Trailhead Academy classroom features. Hands-on challenges, certification scheduling, and the full Trailhead Help section all require the web. Treat the app as a consumption surface, not a power-user toolkit. For cert prep, the pattern is mobile for reading and quiz units, desktop for hands-on challenges and the eventual exam.
Getting started with Trailhead GO
Setup is fast: install, sign in with your Trailblazer profile, and start learning. The configuration choices below are about notifications and download behaviour, not access.
- Install the app
Search Trailhead GO in the iOS App Store or Google Play Store. The app is free with no in-app purchases. Both stores list Salesforce as the publisher; do not install lookalike clones from other publishers.
- Sign in with your Trailblazer profile
Tap Sign In, enter your Trailblazer credentials, complete MFA if enabled. The app syncs your profile, recent activity, and saved Trailmixes within seconds. New learners can create a Trailblazer account from inside the app via Sign Up.
- Pick a Trailmix or browse modules
The home feed shows recommended Trailmixes, recent modules, and progress on in-flight units. Tap any module to open the unit list. Tap a unit to start reading.
- Download modules for offline reading
On any module detail page, tap the download icon. The app caches text, images, and embedded videos. Quizzes work offline; answers submit when connectivity returns.
- Manage notifications and streaks
Settings, Notifications. Toggle daily streak reminders, badge earned alerts, and release announcements independently. Most users keep streak on and silence the rest.
Daily streak reminder, new badge alerts, Trailhead release announcements, recommended Trailmix push. Toggle independently under Settings.
Standard or high quality for embedded videos. High quality uses more storage; standard is fine for most learners.
Auto-track in-flight modules or only show modules you manually start. Default is auto-track, which feeds the recommendation engine.
VoiceOver and TalkBack support, dynamic text sizing, high-contrast mode. The app meets WCAG 2.1 AA standards.
- Hands-on challenges that require a sandbox cannot be completed in the app. The unit pauses; complete the challenge on a desktop browser, then come back.
- Streaks break on a single missed day. The grace period is timezone-aware to the device timezone, not the Trailblazer profile timezone, which catches travelers.
- Offline downloads use device storage. Large Trailmixes with many video-heavy modules can consume several gigabytes; clear unused downloads periodically.
- The app does not support content authoring or AppExchange browsing. Use the web for anything beyond consuming learning content.
- Push notifications require OS-level notification permission. If you toggled them off at the OS level, the in-app Settings page cannot re-enable them.
