Definition

Company Information is a Setup page that stores the organization's fundamental details, including company name, address, default locale, default currency, and time zone. It also displays critical org information such as the Organization ID, edition type, API usage, data storage usage, and file storage usage.

Real-World Example

A new admin at GreenLeaf Organics opens Company Information in Setup to review the org's storage limits. She sees the org is using 4.5 GB of its 10 GB data storage allocation and 15 GB of 20 GB file storage. She also updates the company's mailing address after a recent office move, which automatically reflects on email templates that use the organization address merge field.

Why Company Information Matters

Company Information is a Setup page in Salesforce that stores the organization's foundational details — company name, address, default locale, default currency, time zone, and fiscal year settings. But its importance extends far beyond basic contact information. This page also displays critical operational data that every administrator must monitor: the Organization ID (essential for support cases and integrations), the Salesforce edition type, total and used data storage, file storage, API usage limits, and active user license counts. Changes made here cascade through the org — updating the company address reflects in email templates using organization merge fields, and the default locale affects how dates and numbers display across the platform.

As an org scales, the Company Information page becomes a crucial monitoring dashboard. Storage limits that seemed generous at launch start approaching capacity as years of data accumulate, and running out of data storage causes record creation failures across the entire org — a catastrophic scenario that halts business operations. Similarly, the API usage meter on this page is the first place to check when integrations start failing due to rate limits. Admins who proactively monitor Company Information avoid surprise outages, while those who only visit this page when something breaks often find themselves in emergency situations. Establishing a monthly review cadence for storage consumption, license utilization, and API usage trending is a best practice that prevents minor capacity issues from becoming org-wide incidents.

How Organizations Use Company Information

  • GreenLeaf Organics — A new admin at GreenLeaf opens Company Information and discovers the org is using 4.5 GB of its 10 GB data storage allocation and 15 GB of 20 GB file storage. She sets up monthly storage monitoring and implements a data archival strategy for records older than 3 years. She also updates the company mailing address after a recent office move, which immediately updates the address in all email templates using the Organization Address merge field.
  • Atlas Enterprise Solutions — Atlas's integration team notices random API failures during peak hours. Checking Company Information reveals they have consumed 85% of their 24-hour API call allocation by 2 PM due to a poorly optimized integration that polls Salesforce every 30 seconds. They refactor the integration to use Streaming API for real-time updates and reduce their API consumption by 70%, well within the daily limit.
  • Summit Global Consulting — Summit operates in 15 countries and uses Company Information to verify their org's default currency (USD) and fiscal year configuration (February start). When onboarding a new office in Japan, the admin checks Company Information to confirm that multi-currency is enabled and then adds JPY as an active currency. The Organization ID from this page is included in every support case they file with Salesforce, speeding up resolution times.
